In October of 2016, NUSD acquired property in the west of Natomas, outside City limits, for a future potential school site. Properties within the Natomas Basin, that are located to the north and west of the City limits, are shareholders in the Natomas Central Mutual Water Company (NCMWC). Shareholders and their tenants are eligible to receive irrigation water for agricultural use.
The lessee of the NUSD property requires agricultural irrigation. NUSD and the lessee must both sign the NCMWC Acknowledgement of Bylaws in order to receive irrigation water. The costs and risks associated in receiving the irrigation water are addressed in the Agricultural Lease for the property.

Preschool (PK) and Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program development was part of NUSD’s 2012 investment to build strong programs to attract and retain students. Efforts to align our PK-3rd grade programs are underway. Preschool and Transitional Kindergarten teachers have reviewed and recommended curriculum to assist in increasing alignment and improving interventions for our youngest students.
PK Teachers reviewed two programs, Learning Without Tears, Get Set for School and Teaching Strategies, Creative Curriculum. Teachers were invited to provide feedback and instructional materials were available for parent preview at open houses and an English Learner Advisory Committee meeting. TK Teachers began their process by reviewing curriculum based on the K-5 ELA/ELD adoption, reviewing McGraw-Hill World of Wonders (WOW) for TK and current materials Pearson, Opening the World of Learning (OWL). Teachers were invited to provide feedback on the instructional materials. After reviewing all input and available research, School Leadership and Support recommends the Board adopt Get Set for School for PK and update OWL, to add the digital component for TK levels. The total purchase of the textbook adoption is $43,000 for all PK and TK materials. |
